The unique dough used to create them is made by mixing quartz stone powder, powdered glass, Multani Mitti (Fuller's Earth), borax, gum, and water.
The use of blue glaze on pottery is an imported technique that was first developed by Mongol artisans who combined Chinese glazing technology with Persian decorative arts. This technique then made its way to India during the early Turkic conquests in the 14th century and was adopted by the Mughals.
